First Winter With A Tower

Tower in the Snow

Tower in the Snow

It seems that our tower is holding up well in its first winter here in New Hampshire, USA. We have not had a great deal of wind or any major ice storms this year but we have had quite a bit of snow. The antennas and the other equipment on the tower seem to be holding up very well including the two large SteppIR DB36 Yagis. The picture above shows a nice contrast of the tower and its antenna against a recent snow storm in progress here in New England.

  1. Hi Fred,

I’m enjoying your various updates. Matt KC1XX designed and installed my antenna system (my first tower… ever… after 50+ years as a ham), in 2007. He put up an M2 Log Periodic on it, covering 40M thru 10M, at 100 ft.

I’ve got some pix on QRZ.com.

    • Hi Gary,

Matt does great work for sure. Just took a look at the M2 Log Periodic is a very nice antenna indeed! Thanks for taking the time to look at our blog. We’ve got quite a few things in the pipeline. Some of the topics that are coming up include:

+ Setup and results of operations from the recent ARRL DX Phone Content
      + A post on Software Defined Radio (AB1QB got a Flex-3000 for Christmas ;))
+ Hopefully, a post about my first EME QSO on 2m if I can get it done (stay tuned)
